Notre Dame blasts Kentucky, one win away from advancing

Notre Dame is now one win away from advancing in the Lexington quadrant of the 2021 NCAA Softball Tournament as the Irish blasted host Kentucky 12-3 on Saturday afternoon.

Morgan Ryan allowed just two hits in 4.2 innings pitched for the Irish and recorded a pair of hits and three RBI in the batter’s box as she hit a three-run home run to put Notre Dame up 3-2 in the second inning.

The win was Notre Dame’s first by run-rule in the NCAA Tournament since 2016 as the Irish now advance to their 11th regional final under head coach Deanna Gumpf.

Notre Dame will play Kentucky again on Sunday at 12 p.m. ET. If Notre Dame wins that game they’ll advance as regional champions, if they lose they’ll have a winner-take-all showdown Sunday evening against that same Kentucky squad.

The Wildcats advanced after defeating Northwestern on Saturday night after Northwestern had eliminated Miami (Ohio) earlier in the day.
