Northern Iowa wrestling has five champions at Daktronics Open

Northern Iowa wrestlers traveled to South Dakota for the Daktronics Open at South Dakota State University on Sunday. The Panthers crowned five weight-class champions and won the team championship.

Among the notable teams in attendance were the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State and a handful of wrestlers from Minnesota and Iowa State.

Cael Happel (141 pounds), Adam Allard (149), Ryder Downey (157), Jared Simma (174) and Wyatt Voelker (197) were UNI's individual champions.

Trever Anderson finished third at 125, outpacing teammates Bowen Downey and Brandon Paez. Anderson looks to have the advantage at 125 as UNI looks to replace Kyle Gollhofer after his injury.

Same goes for Allard and Ryder Downey in their classes, who out-performed their teammates to keep a hold on their starting spots. Ryder Downey is particularly a surprise, defeating teammate RJ Weston 3-0 in the final.
