North Jersey football: Public Top 20 and Big Six rankings after Week 5
Once again by a split decision, Passaic Tech remains the No. 1 football team in the North Jersey Public Top 20 rankings after Week 5.
The 12-0 victory over Columbia was enough to convince a majority of voters to keep the Bulldogs ahead of fellow unbeaten and No. 2 Old Tappan, which produced its second consecutive shutout, 44-0, over River Dell.
Rounding out the top 6 are four more teams that registered victories to remain unbeaten: No. 3 Westwood, No. 4 Ramapo, No. 5 Rutherford and No. 6 Park Ridge.
Meanwhile, Bergen Catholic remains No. 1 in the Big Six non-public rankings thanks to a 31-13 victory over No. 3 DePaul. St. Joseph stays at No. 2 after its 52-28 victory over Donovan Catholic. After both enjoy a bye week, then Bergen Catholic hosts St. Joseph on Oct. 14.
Also, Don Bosco climbed into a share of No. 4 with Paramus Catholic after the former defeated St. Peter's Prep, 37-6, and the latter lost to Delbarton, 45-0. The vote was split.
