North DeSoto infielder Blayne McFerren commits to Louisiana Monroe Warhawks

Calvary infielder and pitcher Blayne McFerren, who has transferred back to North DeSoto for his senior year, has committed to Louisiana Monroe.

McFerren, who primarily played third base or shortstop in leading the Cavaliers to an LHSAA Select Division III quarterfinal finish in 2023, visited ULM over the weekend.

“Head coach Mike Federico made me feel I was his own — he is strong in his faith and is a family first guy who reminds me of my dad,” McFerren said. “They also have a great assistant staff and people in place who I feel will help me succeed on and off the field.”

The All-District 1-2A first team infielder hit .444 with a .582 slugging percentage. He cracked nine doubles, four triples with 21 RBIs, while scoring 35 runs. The 5-10, 185-pounder had 25 stolen bases and 55 hits for coach Jason Legg.

“Super excited to say that I will be furthering my academic and athletic career at University of Louisiana Monroe,” McFerren Tweeted. “I would like to thank God first and my coaches and parents that have helped along the way!”

The Warhawk baseball facilities played a role in the decision.

“They just completed the turf field and have a lot more improvements coming,” McFerren said. “ULM has the degree I want for my future in construction management whenever my baseball career is over. My family never misses anything, so being close to home was important.”

McFerren also had offers from Ouachita Baptist and Mississippi College.
