Week 2 Wilmington high school football roundup: Who won Friday night?

Week 2 of the 2023 Wilmington-area high school football season is here. After some big wins and a few losses from area teams last Friday, tonight should be even better.

Seven area teams took the field as Hoggard, New Hanover, and Pender are off. Find a complete list of games and the schedule of every area team in 2023.

With a lot on the line early in the season, teams were aiming for bounce-back performances this week, while others hoped to roll off their Week 1 success.

Havelock 20, Laney 17.

North Brunswick 61, West Carteret 26: The Scorpions stormed out of the gate and never let up in Morehead City with a statement road victory against the Patriots. North QB TT Green had two touchdown runs and a touchdown pass to Will Jones, while Cody Callahan had two interceptions. Jabril Dashiell, Eric Mosely and Calvin Webb also scored touchdowns for North (2-0).

South Columbus 48, South Brunswick 44: The Cougars had things in control before a stunning comeback by the Stallions, who scored the final 36 points of the game. Jameson Prince had two touchdown passes to Jordan Davis and a 67-yard rushing touchdown, while Ethan Overton also had two rushing scores for South Brunswick (1-1), but things slipped away dramatically.

Trask 57, Hobbton 39: Omar Hill had four rushing touchdowns as the Titans (2-0) pulled away in the second and third quarters. Martez Davis and Asher Eaton also had touchdowns for Trask, which plays Sandhills Titans next week.

Ashley 62, East Carteret 0: The Screaming Eagles get back to .500 for the season with a big road win in Beaufort.

Topsail 52, Dixon 6: The Pirates dominated their next-door neighbors to improve to 1-1 on the season.

Whiteville 31, West Brunswick 7: The Trojans fall to 0-2 and travel to North Myrtle Beach next week.
