NJ high school field hockey rankings: Major movement in the top 5 in the Shore Conference

The movement in this week's Asbury Park Press Shore Conference Field Hockey Top 20 starts at the No. 3 spot in the rankings.

Wins by Southern and Middletown South over then No. 3 Toms River North are the reasons for the movement.

Because of those results, Rumson-Fair Haven and Southern each move up a spot in this week's rankings while Middletown South moves up two spots.

Toms River North dropped five spots to No. 8.

There is movement throughout the remainder of the top 10.

Here are this week's rankings.

The rankings are through matches of Sept. 19.

1. Point Pleasant Boro (4-0): Last week: No. 1.

The Panthers defeated Lacey 6-0 and Toms River South 7-0. They have outscored their opposition 25-0. Point Pleasant Boro hosts No. 9 Central Thursday and is scheduled to play at No. 8 Toms River North Saturday.

2. Shore (4-0): Last week: No. 2.

The Blue Devils defeated St. John Vianney 9-0 and Southern 2-1. They have outscored their opposition 22-1. Shore hosted Howell Wednesday; Will host No. 6 Colts Neck Friday and No. 7 Wall Tuesday.

3. Rumson-Fair Haven (5-0): Last week: No. 4.

The Bulldogs defeated Holmdel 12-0 and Red Bank Catholic 6-0. They have outscored the opposition 40-2. Rumson-Fair Haven hosted Monmouth Wednesday and will host No. 5 Middletown South Tuesday.

4. Southern (3-1): Last week: No. 5.

The Rams defeated then No. 3 Toms River North 6-2, then No. 9 Lacey 3-1 and was defeated 2-1 by No. 2 Shore. Southern is scheduled to be at Cherokee Saturday and will host No. 19 Barnegat Monday.

5. Middletown South (4-1): Last week: No. 8.

The Eagles defeated Matawan 10-0 and then No. 3 Toms River North 2-0. They hosted Red Bank Catholic Wednesday, will host St. John Vianney Friday and be at No. 3 Rumson-Fair Haven Tuesday.

6. Colts Neck (3-0): Last week: No. 6.

The Cougars defeated Manalapan 3-1. They hosted No. 11 Freehold Township Wednesday, will be at No. 2 Shore Friday and host Howell Tuesday.

7. Wall (3-1): Last week: No. 7.

The Crimson Knights defeated Ocean 3-0 and Howell 3-2. Wall hosted No. 16. St. Rose on Wednesday, will host No. 17 Manasquan Friday and is at No. 2 Shore Tuesday.

8. Toms River North (2-2): Last week: No. 3.

The Mariners were defeated 6-2 by No. 4 Southern and 2-0 by No. 5 Middletown South. They defeated Toms River South 6-2 and Barnegat 2-1. They are at Jackson Memorial Thursday and are scheduled to host No. 1 Point Pleasant Boro Saturday

9. Central (3-0): Last week: No. 11.

The Golden Eagles defeated Barnegat 5-2 and Lacey 2-1. They are at No. 1 Point Pleasant Boro Thursday, are scheduled to be at No. 10 Manalapan Saturday and will host No. 18 Toms River South Monday.

10. Manalapan (2-1): Last week: No. 14.

Manalapan defeated Neptune 2-0 and were defeated 3-1 by No. 6 Colts Neck. Manalapan will host No. 17 Manasquan Thursday, is scheduled to host No. 9 Central Saturday and will be at Jackson Memorial Tuesday.

11. Freehold Township (2-2): Last week: No. 11.

The Patriots defeated then No. 10 Ocean 2-1. Freehold Township was at No. 6 Colts Neck Wednesday; Will be at No. 16 St. Rose Friday and will host No. 13 Lacey Tuesday.

12. Ocean (2-3): Last week: No. 10.

The Spartans were defeated 3-0 by No. 7 Wall and 2-1 by No. 11 Freehold Township. They were at Trinity Hall Wednesday; Are at Howell Friday and will host St. Rose Tuesday.

13. Lacey (0-3): Last week: No. 9.

The Lions were defeated 6-0 by No. 1 Point Pleasant Boro; 3-1 by No. 4 Southern and 2-1 by No. 9 Central. Lacey is at No. 19 Barnegat Thursday and at No. 11 Freehold Township Tuesday.

14. Holmdel (3-1): Last week: No. 12.

The Hornets were defeated 12-0 by No. 3 Rumson-Fair Haven and defeated Raritan 4-1. Holmdel was at Brick Memorial Wednesday; Will be at Red Bank Catholic Thursday and host Monmouth Tuesday.

15. Toms River East (5-1): Last week: No. 15.

The Raiders defeated Lakewood 5-0; Jackson Liberty 6-0 and Manchester 2-0. They host Donovan Catholic Thursday and are at Brick Tuesday.

16. St. Rose (2-2): Last week: No. 16.

The Purple Roses defeated Howell 5-1 and Red Bank Catholic 7-0. St. Rose was at No. 7 Wall Wednesday; Will host No. 11 Freehold Township Friday and will be at No. 12 Ocean Tuesday.

17. Manasquan (3-1): Last week: Not ranked.

Manasquan defeated Long Branch 7-1 and Neptune 9-0. Manasquan will be at No. 10 Manalapan Thursday; At No. 7 Wall Friday and will host Freehold Tuesday.

18. Toms River South (2-3): Last week: No. 19.

Toms River South defeated No. 18 Barnegat 3-0; Was defeated 6-2 by No. 8 Toms River North and 7-0 by No. 1 Point Pleasant Boro; Toms River South will be at No. 9 Central Tuesday.

19. Barnegat (2-4): Last week: No. 13.

The Bengals were defeated 3-0 by No. 17 Toms River South; 5-2 by No. 9 Central; Defeated Lower Cape May 2-1 and were defeated 2-1 by No. 8 Toms River North. They will host No. 13 Lacey Thursday; Are scheduled to be at Middle Township Saturday and will be at No. 4 Southern Monday.

20. Middletown North (3-1): Last week: Not ranked.

The Lions defeated Raritan 1-0 and Monmouth 2-1. They were at Keyport Wednesday; Will host Henry Hudson Friday and will be at Red Bank Tuesday.
