Nick Senzel recalled by Reds

Former Vol Nick Senzel was recalled by the Reds during a series at Arizona.

Senzel rejoined Cincinnati on Friday after first baseman Joey Votto was placed on the injured list.

The former Vol was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Aug. 11.

In his return to the Reds, Senzel hit a pinch-hit home run Friday in Cincinnati’s 8-7 loss to the Diamondbacks at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.

On Sunday, he entered Cincinnati’s 5-2 loss as a pinch hitter. The former Vol remained in the game as the Reds’ designated hitter. He was 0-for-1 in the contest.

Senzel was the No. 2 overall selection in the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. He played at Tennessee from 2014-16 and was an All-America standout and an All-Southeastern Conference performer.

Senzel came to the Vols from Farragut High School in Farragut Tennessee.

Cincinnati will next play Monday at San Francisco. Fist pitch is slated for 9:45 p.m. EDT at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California.
