Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar announced on Wednesday that team captain and star forward Gabriel Landeskog is set to miss 12 weeks of action after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.

Landeskog has yet to appear for the Avalanche in the 2022-23 NHL season, with Bednar saying last month that the 29-year-old was set to miss the start of the new year.

The Stockholm, Sweden native scored 30 goals and registered 29 assists in 51 games last season before undergoing knee surgery in March. He returned for Colorado's playoff run, posting 20 points in 20 games on the way to hoisting the Stanley Cup.

Landeskog joined his teammates on the ice to raise the Stanley Cup banner to the rafters ahead of their home opener, even taking the Cup for a skate around the rink in full uniform.

A second-overall pick of the Avalanche in the 2011 NHL Draft, Landeskog has 248 goals and 571 points in 738 career games. He is currently signed through the 2028-29 season after inking an eight-year, $56 million deal with the Avalanche in July 2021.

Colorado is 2-1-0 to start the season as it looks to repeat as champions.
