Are the Arizona Cardinals' new uniforms an improvement?

We've been pondering the answer to that question since we got to see Arizona's new look in a game for the first time last Friday in the Cardinals' preseason opener and we're still not sure how we feel about them.

How do others feel about them?

To get an idea of what others think of the Cardinals' new uniforms, we decided to take a look at where they ranked in 2023 NFL uniform rankings and there wasn't a real consensus.

Some sites are higher on Arizona's new look than others. And some are not high on them at all.

Overall, however, we might have to give an edge to these uniforms being better than the previous ones. After all, the old uniforms were sometimes ranked as the worst uniforms in the league.

These new uniforms are at least a little higher on lists ranking NFL uniforms for this season.

Tim Kelly wrote: "Are the Cardinals new uniforms worse than what they wore from 2005-2022? No. Are they better? If they are, it's not by much. The 3D Cardinal that initially appeared on the black alternate helmets is now universal, which seems like a good decision. But the black alternate uniforms look like something that would be worn at Ohio State. The white uniforms look like a worse version of the all-white alternates that the division-rival San Francisco 49ers have. And while it makes sense for a team named the Cardinals to have an all red uniform, it's just not aesthetically pleasing to look at."

Nate Davis wrote: "So this took three years of development? K ... we happy, Kyler? The new vanilla getup is a significant step up from what they'd been relegated to the past 18 seasons. But the dopey phrases inside Arizona's collars – "Protect the Nest" and "Bird Gang" – don't help, and neither does the Ohio State-y veneer. Still, there was nowhere to go but up."

Cork Gaines wrote: "These aren't any more exciting than the Colts' college-like unis. These are at least an upgrade over their overly busy previous set."

Faceoff Sports Network: Cardinals' new look sixth-best new uniform in NFL this season

Phillip Caldwell wrote: "In an off-season marked by change for Arizona, the Cardinals opted for a makeover featuring a simple, clean, and ultimately fresh take on the Arizona look. Their new home uniform features an all-red ensemble, whose shade comes across as almost metallic. They feature “protect the nest” stitched into the collar and “Arizona” emblazoned across the chest. The away version is a similar, but all-white design. And their alternates are all black. Both change up the collar message to “bird gang” and drop the chest declaration of their home state. Ultimately, I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews online from their announcement. Folks seem to either love them or hate them. And that seems to be reflected in their ranking of sixth on this list. They’re not the best. But they’re not the worst by any means either."

The site asked AI to rank every team's NFL uniform and Arizona's new look came in ahead of seven others.

Fansided: Cardinals' new uniforms ranked No. 14 in the NFL

Sion Fawkes wrote: "It’s so refreshing to see that the Arizona Cardinals revamped their look. Sure, it’s minimalist, but the Cards aren’t strangers to minimalist looks in their past, sans the horrendous design they wore between 2005 and 2022. The only flaw in the new look? ARIZONA running across the front on the home primaries."

Washington Post: Cardinals' new uniforms ranked No. 10 out of 11 new NFL uniforms for 2023

Damon Brooks Jr. wrote: "Unlike the rest of the teams on this list, the Cardinals are about to debut a total redesign of their uniforms. In the spring, they introduced three new uniforms: red, white, and black. For the first time in team history, “Arizona” will be stitched across the front of the home jersey."
