NFL reinstating Tennessee Titans OT Nicholas Petit-Frere early from gambling suspension

Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere will be reinstated two weeks ahead of schedule in accordance with the NFL's updated gambling policy.

Petit-Frere will be eligible to rejoin the Titans on Monday, Oct. 2 per an NFL announcement Friday. He had previously been suspended through the Titans' Week 6 game against the Baltimore Ravens on Oct. 15, but per new NFL bylaws the league put out Friday Petit-Frere can now be fully reinstated without having to complete the full suspension.

The Titans do not have a comment on Petit-Frere's reinstatement beyond the NFL's announcement.

Petit-Frere was suspended in the summer for violating an NFL rule about placing bets on sports other than the NFL from inside a team facility. Petit-Frere and the NFL both say he hasn't placed a bet on an NFL game or the Titans since the team drafted him.

Per the NFL's new policy, first-time offenders such as Petit-Frere who bet on leagues other than the NFL will now only be suspended two games without pay. A six-game suspension like Petit-Frere was initially punished with will now be handed out for second offenders.

A 2022 third-round pick from Ohio State, Petit-Frere started 16 games at right tackle for the Titans as a rookie. In his place, the Titans have played veteran free agent signing Chris Hubbard at right tackle for the first three weeks of the season.

Petit-Frere was allowed to practice with the team in training camp and play in preseason games but once training camp ended he had to stop participating in team activities. He's since been cleared to resume working out at the team facility but until this announcement he was not cleared to practice or attend games.

Throughout the preseason, Petit-Frere mostly took third-team reps, clearing the way for players who were eligible for the start of the season to get more opportunities.
