NFL news: Bengals offer encouraging updates on Joe Burrow injury

It’s looking more and more likely that the Cincinnati Bengals will have quarterback Joe Burrow in their lineup when the 2023 NFL regular season starts after some positive news this week.

Early in Bengals training camp, Burrow went down with a non-contact injury. The worst was feared, but that did not come to fruition.

It was later announced by Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor that Burrow only sustained a calf injury. Still, Burrow has missed several weeks of practice this summer which put his start to the season in question.

Taylor has provided another update as of Tuesday. The coach said Burrow is trending in the right direction.

“He looks great. Physically just walking around, he looks probably as good as he’s ever looked at this point,” Taylor said via Bengals Wire. “That’s a positive and we’ll just go from there.”

Taylor went on to joke that Burrow would need only “one rep” in practice in order to be ready to start Week 1 for Cincy.

But the original comment is interesting since… Burrow hasn’t had much of a normal summer due to the injury. Regardless, it’s still a look in a positive direction because even one game without Burrow for the Bengals could make a huge difference when the playoff picture starts to unfold later this year.

Cincinnati is one of top teams in the AFC. They will be a threat to the Bills’ Super Bowl hopes. Cincy knocked Buffalo out of the 2022 playoffs and went on to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship.

It’s likely that all three teams will be top competitors in the conference again this upcoming season.
