NFL news: Bengals’ Joe Burrow suffers season-ending injury
A major update in the race for the AFC postseason has come down: The Cincinnati Bengals will without quarterback Joe Burrow for the rest of the 2023 season.
According to Bengals Wire, Cincinnati head coach Zach Taylor announced that Burrow’s season has come to an end following a wrist injury he sustained against the Baltimore Ravens.
Burrow completed a pass during the Thursday Night Football loss for the Bengals, one which went for a touchdown, and immediately grabbed his hand. From there, Burrow was spotted on the sideline trying to throw a ball but he couldn’t grab it.
The injury occured right before the halftime break and the QB was declared out for the remainder of the game which Cincy lost. The ensuing update from Taylor was a nightmare for Bengals fans but a helpful one for the rest of the conference that are in the hunt of the playoffs–such as the Buffalo Bills.
The Bills won’t be happy to see a fellow player go down, but the Bengals were a team Buffalo was duking it out with in the race for the postseason. The two teams now share a 5-5 record.
At first, Taylor suggested injury was a sprained wrist. It turned out worse.
In relief of Burrow on Thursday night, backup Jake Browning completed eight of 14 attempts for 68 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed four times for 40 yards.
The Bengals play again on Nov. 26 at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
