NFL Hogs update heading into the stretch run
There are three weeks to go in the NFL regular season, and a bunch of former Razorbacks are helping their teams get ready to make a playoff push or stay in contention.
In the AFC, the Baltimore Ravens are currently in the driver’s seat for the No. 1 seed and home field throughout the playoffs.
Meanwhile, in the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers occupy that spot, and have participated in three of the last four conference championship games.
If the Ravens and 49ers do ultimately end up meeting in Super Bowl LVIII, it would be a rematch of Super Bowl XLVII, which was won by Baltimore, 34-31 and was most remembered for the lights going out in the Superdome briefly.
Here are the current #ProHogs doing damage.
Brandon Allen, QB, San Francisco
Allen is a security blanket quarterback if Brock Purdy and Sam Darnold were to both get hurt.
Purdy did get hurt in the playoffs last year, however.
Montaric Brown, CB, Jacksonville
Brown has been a big part of a Jaguars defense that currently has it 8-6 and leading the AFC South, although they are on a slide.
Treylon Burks, WR, Tennessee
Burks has dealt with injuries most of his second year in the league, and the Titans are eliminated from playoff contention. He will probably just try and keep it together during the last three games.
Kamren Curl, S, Washington
Curl has become one of the NFL’s best young safeties. In 2023, Curl has 102 tackles (65 solo), a sack, a forced fumble and four passes defended. It has been a disappointing year for the Commanders otherwise.
Hjalte Froholdt, OL, Arizona
Froholdt has become a dependable member of the Cardinals’ offensive line, but they are removed from postseason consideration, sitting at 3-11.
Dre Greenlaw, LB, San Francisco
Greenlaw went viral for the above fracas a few weeks ago, but he is one of the cornerstones of a 49ers defense that has Super Bowl aspirations.
Hunter Henry, TE, New England
Henry is enjoying one of his better seasons despite New England being in disarray and unable to decide on a quarterback. He has four touchdowns in his last five games played.
Jeremiah Ledbetter, DL, Jacksonville
Ledbetter is carving out a niche on the Jaguars’ defensive front and will only improve as he continues to gain more reps.
Jerry Jacobs, S, Detroit
Jacobs has 55 tackles and 8 pass breakups for a Detroit team that looks to win the NFC North and host a playoff game.
Jason Peters, OL, Seattle
The future Hall of Famer is now trying to help Seattle make a playoff push. He is simply amazing for doing what he’s doing at his age.
Frank Ragnow, C, Detroit
There is an argument that Ragnow is the most important part of the Lions’ offense. Detroit’s numbers skyrocket when he is in the lineup.
John Ridgeway, DT, Washington
Ridgeway has 26 tackles for a Washington defense that is bend but don’t break. He will continue to improve as he gains experience.
Drew Sanders, LB, Denver
It’s pretty remarkable how quickly Sanders has eked out a spot on Denver’s defense. He only has 15 tackles but he is constantly on the field.
Dan Skipper, OT, Detroit
Skipper may have finally found a home in the Motor City after many twists and turns along the way.
Armon Watts, DL, Pittsburgh
Watts has 13 tackles and a half sack for a Steelers unit that is looking to hang on to a playoff spot desperately.
Deatrich Wise, Jr., DL, New England
Wise has become a mainstay in Foxboro, but if Bill Belichick is moving on after the season, he may be looking for a new home in 2024.
