NFL free agency tracker: Who is signing the top players?

The Arizona Cardinals are among those NFL teams that have been quiet since the regular season ended in January.

Now it's time to really crank things up and look ahead to the 2024 rosters for every team, as Monday marked the two-day "legal tampering" period before the official start of NFL free agency during which teams are permitted to contact, and work out contracts with the certified agents of players who will become unrestricted free agents upon the expiration of their 2023 player contracts Wednesday.

Since 9 a.m. PT Monday, reports of some of the most sought-after free-agents-to-be agreeing to terms with new teams are rampant. The frenzy comes to a screeching halt at 12:59 p.m. on Wednesday. One minute later, the 2024 league year begins and all agreed-to free-agent contracts can be signed and made official.

Tracking the big-name signings being reported:

DE Danielle Hunter to Houston Texans

Houston gets a four-time Pro Bowler to team up with budding star Will Anderson as the other primary pass rusher. Hunter spent nine seasons in Minnesota and was a top free agent name still out there until he agreed to a two-year, $49 million deal on Tuesday.

LB Patrick Queen to Pittsburgh Steelers

Queen was part of the heart of one of the NFL's best defenses, the Baltimore Ravens, but on Tuesday accepted a three-year, $41 million deal from the Steelers. He'll face his former team twice a year.

WR Darnell Mooney to Atlanta Falcons

Mooney goes from the Chicago Bears to join new QB Kirk Cousins in Atlanta for an agreed-to three years and $39 million, reported Tuesday. Mooney had one 1,000-yard season in four with the Bears.

RB Derrick Henry to Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore churns through running backs, and on Tuesday added one of the NFL's best in recent years in the four-time Pro Bowler. Henry figures to take some of the carries away from quarterback Lamar Jackson. He had a franchise record 90 touchdowns with the Tennessee Titans. His contract is for a reported two years and $16 million but could be more with incentives.

RB Joe Mixon to Houston Texans

Mixon was the lead back for the Cincinnati Bengals until they no longer wanted to keep him, and he was set to be released. Instead, he was traded Tuesday. Mixon had been a 1,000-yard rusher in four of seven seasons with the Bengals.

QB Sam Darnold to Minnesota Vikings

Once the starting quarterback for the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers, Darnold spent last season as Brock Purdy's backup in San Francisco. On Tuesday it was reported that he is going to Minnesota, where he becomes a candidate to replace the departed Kirk Cousins. It's a reported one-year, up to $10 million deal.

QB Kirk Cousins to Atlanta Falcons

Cousins left the Minnesota Vikings and agreed to a four-year, $180 million contract Monday with the Falcons, according to the NFL Network. This means the Falcons aren't ready to commit to former third-round draft pick and now third-year QB Desmond Ridder, who was last season's starter. Cousins, 35, spent the past six seasons in Minnesota and is a four-time Pro Bowler.

LB Brian Burns to New York Giants (via trade with Carolina Panthers)

On Monday afternoon, the Giants and Panthers agreed on a trade to send Burns to New York for a second-round draft pick and a fifth-round pick. Burns, one of the game's top pass rushers, is set to sign a five-year, $150 million contract with the Giants, all according to NFL Media.

Trades, like contract agreements, cannot be finalized until Wednesday.

RB Saquon Barkley to Philadelphia Eagles

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley (26) runs the ball against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale on Sept. 17, 2023.

Barkley reported where he was going himself.

NFL Network reported that he will get a three-year, $37.75 million contract with an NFC East rival, after Barkley played his first six seasons in the league with the New York Giants. Barkley has more than 7,200 yards from scrimmage in his career.

RB Josh Jacobs to Green Bay Packers

Two-time Pro Bowler Jacobs departs Las Vegas (four years, $48 million), per NFL Media, after five seasons, three of more than 1,000 rushing yards. Green Bay has utilized a two-man running back system in recent seasons, now Jacobs steps in as the true lead back, it would appear.

DL Christian Wilkins to Las Vegas Raiders

An impact defensive tackle for the Miami Dolphins since he was a first-round pick in 2019, Wilkins is getting paid very well, according to multiple reports Monday. He's got a four-year, $110 million contract waiting to be signed this week. There was speculation that Wilkins might be a prime target of the Cardinals, but Vegas won out.

QB Russell Wilson to Pittsburgh Steelers

Wilson announced this late Sunday night, and now it is established that the one-time Super Bowl champion who starred for the Seattle Seahawks and was just so-so for the Denver Broncos before they announced they planned to release him is going to Pittsburgh. It's a one-year deal for just over $1 million, but Wilson has $38 million coming to him from the Broncos on top of that.

S Xavier McKinney to Green Bay Packers

First it was Jacobs, then the Packers helped their defense Monday with McKinney, a former 2020 second-round pick who has nine interceptions in 46 career games, all with the New York Giants. McKinney gets a reported four-year, $68 million deal.
