Newton boys grab road win over Nevada

Mar. 29—NEVADA — The Newton boys soccer team did enough to remain unbeaten on Thursday.

The Cardinals scored their only goal with 15 minutes to go in the first half and Hunter Teague made a game-clinching save in the final seconds during a 1-0 non-conference win over Nevada.

"We won a lot of first balls on defense, but didn't get enough production on offense," Newton head boys soccer coach Zach Jensen said. "We should have done more."

The Cardinals' only goal was scored on a header by Christian Lawson. It came off an assist from Nate Lampe. Newton had 19 shots and put 10 shots on goal.

Teague made four saves in 80 minutes at goalie. His final stop came with nearly no time left on the clock. It also resulted in an injury as Teague was hit in the head on the play.

"We don't know how he is doing yet," Jensen said. "We will know more hopefully tomorrow. It got chippy at the end. We managed the game out pretty well. A win is a win. And we are 2-0."
