New England starting quarterback has faced a series of unfortunate events lately. It is bad enough that over the past twenty-months Tom Brady has been the face of the Patriots’ Deflategate debacle, but a dark cloud still seems to be looming over his head.

Brady has had a rough start to the preseason. The practices could be going better but it isn’t his fault. There has been a constant flow of injuries that have plagued New England. Brady is trying to create the best possible team with the options available to him, but with the revolving door of injuries among star players like wide receiver Julian Edelman, tight end Rob Gronkowski, offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer, wide receiver Danny Amendola, and most recently running back Dion Lewis, it’s tough.

The 2016 NFL regular season is almost underway and so is Brady’s four game suspension. So far this preseason Brady has yet to see any game action. Tom Brady missed the first game of the preseason due to a death in the family. The second game of the preseason he was out due to a hand injury that could be described as a freak accident. Most recently, Tom Brady was excused from two preseason practices.

However, with all of the negative shadowing over Brady, there is a light for backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Garoppolo has been on the rise since Brady’s suspension was finalized. Although Garoppolo isn’t basking in the glow of Brady’s negative outcomes, he has been working hard to become the leader needed to help New England on the path to another Super Bowl ring.

Thus far, Garoppolo has been able to win two preseason games with the help of a strong defense. He is showing the determination and skill needed to guide the Pats while Brady is suspended. With the first game of the season only weeks away, Tom Brady has the time needed to recuperate and gear up for game number five.
