Source: 49ers expect to lose RB Frank Gore; Eagles have offer for him
The San Francisco 49ers are preparing to lose veteran running back Frank Gore to the Philadelphia Eagles, a league source told Yahoo Sports.
The Eagles have a three-year offer on the table to Gore that averages roughly $5 million per year, with $7.5 million guaranteed over the first two seasons, the source said. Terms are subject to change since deals aren't official until Tuesday, the official start of free agency, but Gore is expected to sign this week.
Gore, who turns 32 in May, has played his entire 10-year career with the 49ers, rushing for 11,073 yards and 64 touchdowns. His career rushing mark ranks 20th all time, 163 yards behind Hall of Famer O.J. Simpson.
If Gore lands in Philadelphia, he figures to fill the spot vacated by starter LeSean McCoy, who was traded in a blockbuster deal last week to the Buffalo Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso. Gore has rushed for at least 1,000 yards in the past four straight seasons, so it would be interesting to see how his grinding style figures in Chip Kelly's high-powered offense.
