Report: Bulls' Rose likely out until March

Although reports in May suggested Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose could return to action in December or January, a report on the Bulls' recent moves in the Chicago Tribune said Rose is "out until likely March."

The projection that Rose won't return until March is an estimate based on the typical 12-month recovery period for a torn anterior-cruciate ligament. It's possible Rose could return in January, although that is optimistic.

If Rose is indeed out until March, it may doom the Bulls' season. Even if Rose is able to return by February or March, he is unlikely to reach his MVP form of 2011 by the time the playoffs begin in mid-April. That is assuming the Bulls even reach the playoffs without Rose for much of the season.

The Bulls earned the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Division for the playoffs this past season, but lost in the opening round to the eighth-seeded 76ers after Rose injured his knee in the first game of that series.
