Report: Patriots reunite with former second-round pick Jamie Collins
The New England Patriots are bringing back linebacker Jamie Collins. The former second-round pick has decided to reunite with the franchise that drafted him, according to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe.
The terms of the deal are not known at this time.
The 29-year-old Collins was selected 52nd overall by the Patriots in the 2013 NFL draft. After spending three-and-a-half strong seasons with New England, Collins was traded to the Browns in the middle of the 2016 season.
Injuries limited Collins to just six games in 2017, but he rebounded to put up 104 tackles and four sacks in 2018. Despite that performance, Collins was cut by the Browns for cap reasons.
After signing a four-year, $50 million contract in 2018, Collins was due to make over $11 million in 2019. By releasing Collins now, the Browns saved a little over $9 million next season.
When healthy, Collins has been a tackling machine. He’s racked up over 100 tackles in three of his six seasons in the league.
