Oregon State postpones home game vs. Nicholls State
Hurricane Isaac has prompted the postponement of a college football game scheduled to be played more than 2,500 miles away from southern Louisiana.
Oregon State announced that its scheduled Saturday home game against Nicholls State has been postponed with the visitors' school preparing for the storm's arrival.
"It became apparent as (Wednesday) progressed that the safety of Nicholls State's team and personnel was a primary concern," Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis said in a statement. "Many of the Colonels' student-athletes and staff are with family and there is a deepening concern about their safety in returning to campus. We will continue to discuss the possibility of rescheduling the game."
Nicholls State athletic director Rob Bernardi said in a statement, "It's extremely unfortunate that we will not be able to make this trip."
The teams might have difficulty rescheduling the game, as they don't have matching bye weeks during the season. It's possible the Beavers and Colonels could play Dec. 1, but Oregon State hopes to be in the Pac-12 championship game that day, while Nicholls State could be in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.
Oregon State last postponed a football game in September 2011 following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
