Lyoto Machida vs. Luke Rockhold Being Discussed as Potential UFC Match-Up

A middleweight match-up between division standouts Lyoto Machida and Luke Rockhold is being targeted by the UFC, according to a report on Wednesday afternoon.

As reported by Daniel Cormier on UFC Tonight, the organization is internally discussing the potential for the Machida vs. Rockhold showdown, and both fighters are interested in the pairing. He added that a date and venue are yet to be determined.

“Luke Rockhold vs. Lyoto Machida is coming at you,” Cormier said.

Rockhold, a teammate of Cormier's at American Kickboxing Academy, last fought in April at UFC 172. In the bout, the former Strikeforce middleweight champion submitted Tim Boetsch in the first round. The win was his second in a row.

Machida is coming off a loss in his last fight, a failed attempt at gaining the UFC middleweight title against champion Chris Weidman. In five rounds, Machida and Weidman put on a show in one of the most memorable UFC title fights to date, but it was the titleholder who walked away with a unanimous decision.
