A new Steve Jobs biopic is in the works, possibly starring Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role.

The screenplay for this high-profile film was written by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network), with Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men) serving as one of the producers. The film is based on Walter Isaacson's bestselling biography, Steve Jobs.

David Fincher, best known for directing mega hit The Social Network, was originally set to direct, but he left the project due to disagreements with the studio. Scrambling to replace Fincher, Sony Pictures is in talks with British director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire).

Early on, Christian Bale was the prime contender to portray Jobs, but a deal was never forthcoming. Boyle's choice for the role is DiCaprio, whom he directed in The Beach back in 2000.

Jobs, another biographical film about the Apple Computer co-founder, starring Ashton Kutcher, premiered last year, so the timing of the new production is a little surprising. It indicates how iconic Jobs has become following his death in 2011 at the age 56.
