LeBron James will not use his phone if he has to pay for data

The life of an NBA superstar is often very glamorous. Just ask LeBron James, who often vacations on luxury yachts with famous friends like Dwyane Wade and his actress wife Gabrielle Union, Chris Paul, and Carmelo Anthony. They eat fancy meals, drive fast cars, and live in luxury. There is nearly nothing in which they cannot indulge if they so choose.

Yet LeBron still cares about saving money when possible. Wade served as guest host of the syndicated talk show “Live with Kelly” on Thursday morning and offered an interesting bit of insight into James’s personality. After an hour of discussing his new home with the Chicago Bulls and interviewing TV’s Eric Stonestreet, Wade (and Union) told Kelly Ripa all about LeBron’s thriftiness in an Instagram video. Apparently he will not use his phone for any data purposes if he is without WiFi (via SB Nation):

Thank you, Gabrielle Union, for uttering the phrase “He is not messing with data roaming” in reference to the greatest basketball player of his generation. I will never forget it, because there is pretty much nothing funnier than imagining LeBron James getting into an argument about who played the love interest in “The 6th Man” and then refusing to look it up because he’s near his data limit. Keep in mind, too, that LeBron has a Samsung endorsement and could probably ask for them to hook up a favorable data package with his provider if he really needed one.
