Harvick's 2014 Nationwide ride will be with JR Motorsports
Kevin Harvick is teaming up with good friend Dale Earnhardt Jr. as a part-time driver for the JR Motorsports No. 5 Chevrolet on the Nationwide circuit in 2014.
Harvick is currently third in the Chase for the Sprint Cup standings and is third all-time with 40 Nationwide wins.
Harvick, a two-time Nationwide Series champion, signed with JR Motorsports for at least 12 Nationwide races next season. His schedule is "still being finalized," according to Earnhardt's team.
"This is pretty cool to have Kevin a part of our team," Earnhardt Jr. said of owning a car Harvick will operate. "I've known him for a long time. He's an incredible racer. He will be a huge asset to JR Motorsports, our sponsors and our fans. I'm grateful that he wants to drive our cars, and I'm grateful that Hunt Brothers Pizza is committed to Kevin and our race program. We're happy to have them."
A full complement of drivers could be involved in the No. 5 team, but the schedule will be worked out at a later date. Harvick won Nationwide Series championships in 2001 and 2006.
Hunt Brothers Pizza is the primary sponsor of the No. 5 at Bristol Motor Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, and both races at Texas Motor Speedway.
Harvick has 22 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victories, including the 2003 Brickyard 400 and 2007 Daytona 500.
