Hakeem Nicks shows up, doesn't say much about missing OTA's

Hakeem Nicks admits he made an error this offseason.

He should have called Tom Coughlin to let the New York Giants coach know he wouldn’t be attending voluntary OTA’s.

Other than that, Nicks didn’t have much to say about his whereabouts this spring. He had originally informed Coughlin he planned to attend OTA’s.

I feel where he was coming from,’’ Nicks said, according to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. “I could have done a better job of reaching out, but we finally got to talk and we got things straightened out. Coach Coughlin’s my guy, so I think that relationship can’t go sour. I should have done a better job of reaching out to him, but I’m here now.”

Nicks had offseason arthroscopic knee surgery but should be fully cleared in advance of training camp. He suffered a broken foot during OTA’s a year ago. Maybe that had something to do with him not showing.

“I’m here now, and that’s all I’m going to talk about,” Nicks said.

Nicks seems to think everything is smoothed over with the coach now too.

“He’s definitely not in tune with where we are,’’ Coughlin said. “We’ve had nine OTAs and we’ve thrown a lot at ’em. I mean, he’s just had one meeting. If he’s around, he’ll pick it up quick. He’ll get it fast.’’

We’ll see how well he plays catch up.
