Georgia kicker put on scholarship on Friday, hits game-winner on Saturday (Video)
Rodrigo Blankenship hit two field goals, including the 30-yarder that ended up being the winning score, in Georgia’s 20-19 win over Notre Dame on Saturday night.
He may have had a better day on Friday.
After the win, Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart revealed to the team in the locker room that he put Blankenship on scholarship. Well, Smart didn’t tell the team. He had Blankenship do it himself. Watch this:

Blankenship’s scholarship has been a long time coming. It actually became somewhat of a point of contention between Smart and Blankenship’s family in January.
Blankenship’s father released a lengthy statement to the Macon Telegraph about Smart’s decision to not put his son on scholarship for the spring semester. The younger Blankenship was a redshirt freshman in 2016 and connected on 14-of-18 field goal attempts and was a perfect 26-of-26 on PATs. He notably hit the game-winner against Kentucky and kept his helmet on for the postgame interview.

So far in 2017, Blankenship is 3-of-4 on field goals and 6-of-6 on extra points. Georgia is 2-0.
