Fantasy: Waiver-Wire Adds for NFL Week 13

At this point of the season, you should have a pretty good feel on whether your team is going to be competing in the fantasy playoffs or not. So, it’s time to start planning ahead. What addition can I make to carry my team to a fantasy title? What player is going to absolutely explode over the last four weeks, a la Tim Hightower in 2015? Here’s a list of players you need to acquire for the remaining five weeks.

QB Colin Kaepernick

If it wasn’t for the polarization of Kaepernick’s off-the-field takes, a lot more people would be talking about just how well he’s been playing on-the-field. Since Week 6, Kaepernick has yet to dip below 17 fantasy points, and is averaging over 25 fantasy points per game over the last four weeks. Kap’s ability to use his legs to gain yardage is the main ingredient in his recent fantasy success, as he’s averaging over 50 rushing yards per game in the last four weeks. When Kap is running the ball this effectively, his floor is really high.

Still not convinced? Well he’s carrying a 10 TD: 3 INT ratio into a match-up against the Chicago Bears, who are a mess defensively. He also has favorable match-ups against the Jets and Falcons looming. If he isn’t owned yet, he needs to be. You could even make the argument that Kap deserves QB1 consideration.

RB Kenneth Dixon

Kenneth Dixon has the highest potential upside of any remaining running back on most waiver-wires in Week 13. Dixon is firmly entrenched in a timeshare with fellow running-back mate Terrence West, but Dixon is the more-talented running back, and is slowly starting to chip away at West’s touches. For the first time in 2016, Dixon out-snapped West in Week 12, and received a season high 17 touches in Sunday’s win over Cincinnati. Baltimore’s coaching staff has been raving about Dixon’s ability, so it only feels like a matter of time until he takes full control over the Ravens backfield. Dixon brings an impressive blend of size-speed, as well as pass-catching capabilities out of the backfield.

He’s a flex-play as of Week 13, but has the potential to be much more than that.

WR Anquan Boldin

Boldin, despite being on the tail-end of his playing career, still has arguably the most reliable set of hands in the NFL. Quarterback’s like reliability, which is why Boldin is slowly starting to become Stafford’s favorite target on the outside, particularly in the redzone. Boldin has caught four touchdowns in his last six games, and as the weather starts to dip in temperature, Stafford may look his way more often. While his yardage production is a bit concerning, I like that number to tick up with some favorable match-ups moving forward.

Boldin has WR2 upside for the remaining five weeks.

TE Lance Kendricks

This will be a bit of a contrarian play, but I like Kendricks moving forward. Rookie quarterback Jared Goff isn’t throwing the ball downfield, he’s throwing in the intermediate and short areas of the field. Tight ends are often used as safety blankets for rookie quarterbacks, and I think Goff will lean on Kendricks more than his outside targets. Since Goff has taken over, Kendricks has eight receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown.

With Los Angeles facing off against several good teams in the coming weeks, I expect Goff to be throwing from behind a lot. Fantasy is a volume game, and I think the targets will be there for Kendricks.
