Dan Henderson's New UFC Contract is a Six-Fight Deal, Likely His Last
When Dan Henderson lost to Vitor Belfort at UFC Fight Night 32 on Nov. 9, it was the final fight of his UFC contract. The negotiations on a new deal came to close on Tuesday with the announcement that Henderson will rematch Maurico “Shogun” Rua at UFC Fight Night 38 on March 23, in Brazil.
Henderson defeated Rua by unanimous decision at UFC 139 in November 2011 in an epic battle. The fight became an instant classic and was a 2011 Fight of the Year candidate.
On Wednesday, Henderson told UFC Tonight that he inked a six-fight deal with the promotion. He said that he’s happy with the deal although he didn’t get everything that he wanted. The 43-year-old also indicated that it would likely be his final contract and plans to retire under the UFC banner.
The former two-division PRIDE champion had a rough 2013, losing three fights in a row, including being knocked out for the first time in his 16-year career. He hopes to get back on the winning track, starting with Rua.
Rua (22-8) rebounded from back-to-back losses in his last outing, defeating James Te Huna by knockout in the opening round at UFC Fight Night 33 on Dec. 7.
