Cavs guard Matthew Dellavedova on Game 4: 'I'll be ready to go'

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Cavaliers coach David Blatt said Wednesday that guard Matthew Dellavedova is expected to play in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, but acknowledged that the second-year guard's "tank is low."

Dellavedova was taken to the Cleveland Clinic after Game 3 for treatment for severe cramping and required an IV. He's since been released and says he's already thinking about Game 4.

"I was [in the hospital] for a little bit, but mainly just to rest up and recover," Dellavedova said. "We all take it pretty easy [Wednesday] just to get our treatment, and we've watched tape and things like that. So, yeah, I'll be ready to go [Thursday]."

Dellavedova, who has emerged as something of a folk hero in these Finals because of his energized, all-out style of play, scored 20 points and had five rebounds and four assists in the Cavs' 96-91 Game 3 victory Tuesday night to give Cleveland a 2-1 series lead.

"Delly, obviously, suffered from some fatigue," Blatt said. "I don’t know whether to call it dehydration or something else, but the tank is low, and we're doing everything we can to fill it back up."

Blatt offered some interesting insight when asked if Dellavedova would be limited in Game 4.

"I told him I was going to limit his minutes, and he said, 'No, you’re not,' " Blatt said. "Look, we've got to be realistic and keep our eyes on him and see how he recovers. He emptied the tank last night.

"Hopefully, in the ensuing 48 hours he's going to be able to catch up and to get back up to par, so to speak, in terms of his body. ... I'm not going to come in there with a specific minute restriction, but we'll definitely be conscious of it."

Regarding Iman Shumpert and his injured left shoulder, Blatt said the guard underwent an MRI and it was as good as could be hoped.

"He has a bruised shoulder and it's painful, but fortunately no serious damage, and that's really, really good news," said Blatt, who expects Shumpert to play Thursday.
