Brandon Vera Returns to Heavyweight to Face Ben Rothwell at UFC 164

The UFC 164 fight card slated for Aug. 31 in Milwaukee is starting to take shape.

Brandon Vera on Thursday confirmed that he would face Ben Rothwell in a UFC 164 heavyweight bout at the Bradley Center. The bout was initially reported by MMAJunkie.com.

“Good morning everyone!! I wanted to let y'all know it is conformed I am fighting Big Ben Rothwell on Aug 31st @ufc 164 @ heavyweight!!! Good times ahead.!!!!!” Vera tweeted.

Vera (12-6) is making the move back to heavyweight after several years of making a go of it at light heavyweight. Vera began his UFC tenure as a heavyweight, amassing a 4-2 record before dropping to 205 pounds.

He wasn’t nearly as successful at light heavyweight, going 4-4 with one no contest over the past five years. Vera, coming off of a loss to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, is 1-3 with one no contest over his last five bouts.

He’ll face Ben Rothwell (32-9), whose career is also in need of rejuvenation. He has been in the UFC for nearly four years, but has managed a record of just 2-3, while battling injuries and illness.

Rothwell enters the fight with Vera on the heels of a loss to Gabriel Gonzaga.

UFC 164 does not yet have a main event.
