Blues sign Jordan Binnington to 2-year deal worth $4.4M AAV
St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington will avoid arbitration after agreeing to a two-year contract worth an average annual value (AAV) of $4.4 million, the team announced Saturday.
He was scheduled for an arbitration hearing on July 20.
"I'm happy to get this deal done with the St. Louis Blues," Binnington said in a release. "To the city of St. Louis, thank you for welcoming me in and trusting me to do me. I'm excited and motivated to keep doing my job and keep bringing success to the St. Louis Blues organization.”
Binnington led the Blues to their first Stanley Cup victory in franchise history, featuring in all 16 playoff wins, while posting a 2.46 goals-against average and .914 save percentage throughout the playoffs. He became the first rookie goaltender in to win 16 games in a single postseason.
The Blues’ star was the catalyst for change behind the team’s worst-to-first year, posting a 24-5-1 record during the regular season, along with a sparkling .927 save percentage and 1.89 goals-against average. Binnington earned Rookie of the Month honours in February and March, and was named to the All-Rookie Team.
Binnington recently received a hero’s welcome when he brought the Stanley Cup back to Richmond Hill, Ont., during his day with the trophy. Now that he’s been locked up for two more years, the Blues can defend their title in earnest.
