Jimmy Vesey may sign with the Buffalo Sabres sometime soon, or he may stick to what he’s said all along and explore unrestricted free agency once August 15 hits.

But for the next month and five days, the Sabres, and apparently the people of Buffalo, are going all out to convince the Hobey Baker Award winner to be a part of the team’s 2016-17 lineup.

One group helping sell Vesey on Buffalo is the Sabres’ official automotive dealer, Northtown Automotive, who kept up the tradition of using a billboard to send a message by trying to butter up the former Harvard star.

Opponents of the Buffalo Bills have mostly faced the wrath of the #290Billboard, including a 2013 one mocking the tattoo of a certain NFL head coach who may now work for the local football team.

We’ll see how all of this works over the next month. On Thursday, the Sabres sent GM Tim Murray, head coach Dan Bylsma and assistant director of scouting Jerry Forton, who according to the Buffalo News helped Harvard recruit Vesey, to Boston to speak with him about the organization.

“I felt the first meeting with the Sabres went quite well and was certainly informative,” Vesey’s agent told WGR550. “Jimmy was very comfortable with Tim Murray and coach Bylsma”

Murray gave the Nashville Predators a 2016 third-round pick in June to acquire Vesey’s rights after GM David Poile saw the writing on the wall that the prospect wasn’t going to sign in Music City. The Sabres are going to take advantage of this exclusive window, but will they eventually succeed?
