Bengals claim Sanzenbacher, put Kirkpatrick on IR

Wide receiver Dane Sanzenbacher is heading home.

The Maumee, Ohio, native and Ohio State alumnus was claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday. Sanzenbacher was waived by the Chicago Bears a day earlier.

The Bengals cleared a roster spot for Sanzenbacher by placing rookie cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick on injured reserve because of a knee injury.

In four games with the Bears this season, Sanzenbacher made just one catch for 7 yards. He appeared in all 16 games for Chicago as a rookie last year, compiling 27 receptions for 276 yards and three touchdowns.

Sanzenbacher, 24, signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2011.

Kirkpatrick sustained a concussion Dec. 2, and he hadn't played since. The knee ailment sidelined him for last week's game, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

Kirkpatrick, 23, was credited with four tackles in five games with the Bengals this season. He was a first-round draft pick this year (17th overall) out of Alabama.
