Aqib Talib says he can't provide details on Dallas shooting

If you’re still wondering what happened to Aqib Talib the night he was shot in the leg in Dallas, you didn’t get any new answers on Monday.

Talib, the Denver Broncos’ Pro Bowl cornerback, was back on the practice field Monday. It was his first practice since being shot in a mysterious set of events back in June. Nobody seemed sure if Talib was shot outside a club or at a park in the early morning hours. He said he was too intoxicated to remember. According to police reports the bullet entered at the rear of his right thigh and exited out his right calf.

On Monday, Talib had a large media group surround him and ask him about what happened, and the reporters were shut down immediately.

Talib declined to say anything about the incident, according to numerous reporters at practice. He cited the Dallas Police Department’s investigation for his silence. So we’ll continue to wonder. It’s unclear if Talib will face NFL punishment over the incident, mostly because nobody seems to know what happened except for Talib, and he doesn’t seem excited to share details.

Whatever happened in Dallas is not the immediate concern for the Broncos. Getting Talib back on the field is. Talib has been a Pro Bowl player the past three years, and he’s a very important piece to a defense that was the best in the NFL last season.

Reports said Talib was eased back into practice on Monday. Troy Renck of Denver 7, the ABC affiliate, said the team thinks Talib could play in Denver’s third preseason game. That would be great news for the Broncos because it would put Talib on track to be ready for the regular-season opener against the Carolina Panthers.

“Today, I felt pretty good, and we have time,” Talib said.

Talib said the Dallas incident made him appreciate football even more because he couldn’t play for a couple months. Even though we still aren’t sure what happened in Dallas back in June, at least the Broncos can feel good about their Pro Bowl cornerback being able to practice again.
