Angels' pitcher Hawkins put on disabled list

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher LaTroy Hawkins was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday with a fractured right pinkie.

Hawkins was injured when he caught an Omar Vizquel comebacker that resulted in a game-ending double play on Sunday.

The recovery time from a broken pinkie typically is about 4-6 weeks, but Hawkins will be re-evaluated after two weeks. Hawkins, 39, is 0-1 with a 1.08 earned run average in 8 1/3 innings this season.

David Pauley was called up from Triple-A to take his place on the roster.

Also Sunday, reliever Scott Downs suffered a bruise to the back of his knee, although the Angels are hoping he won't have to go on the disabled list too.
