Newark Catholic, Granville ranked in first state poll ahead of Tuesday's showdown

It will be a battle of unbeaten girls basketball teams Tuesday when Newark Catholic hosts Granville.

It now also is a battle between state-ranked teams. The Green Wave and Blue Aces were ranked in their respective top 10 on Monday when the Associated Press released the first state media poll of the season.

NC is ranked No. 5 in Division IV. The Green Wave are 10-0 overall and 6-0 in Licking County League play, leading the Cardinal Division by two games.

Granville is tied for No. 10 in Division II. The Blue Aces also are 10-0 overall and sit 5-0 in LCL play, leading the Buckeye Division by three games.

In boys basketball, Newark sits just outside of the top 10 in a tie for 11th. The Wildcats are 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the Ohio Capital Conference, leading the Buckeye Division by a game.
