Nets’ Spencer Dinwiddie, Nic Claxton could ascend record books in 2023-24

Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie and center Nic Claxton go into the 2023-24 season with important roles in helping the Nets get back to the postseason for the sixth consecutive year. With Ben Simmons now healthy and looking like himself, Dinwiddie and Claxton will have more help to achieve the team-wide goal of getting into the playoffs.

With that being said, Dinwiddie and Claxton will have to do their part if Brooklyn is going to beat the odds. Right now, most betting markets have the Nets winning anywhere between 35 and 40 games which would most likely put Brooklyn in the play-in tournament.

There are people on both sides of the conversation with some saying that Brooklyn will be better than expected and vice versa. All arguments are valid at this time of the year, but one thing that Nets fans can watch out for is Dinwiddie and Claxton having the chance to achieve some career milestones over the course of this season:

For Dinwiddie (1,697 assists), according to Jeff Case of NBA.com, if he picks up 382 assist this season, he will pass Deron Williams (2,078) for third in Nets history in total assists. Dinwiddie averaged 9.1 assists per game during his time in Brooklyn last season so most likely, he could approach that milestone by the end of the season.

Claxton currently has blocked 288 shots in his career with the Nets. If he blocks 181 shots this season, he blocked 189 in 2022-23, he will go from 17th on the Nets’ all-time blocks list to passing Chris Morris for sixth on the list. If Claxton were to block 2.5 shots this season, his average from last season, he should achieve this milestone with about 10 games left in the season.
