Nets have incredibly slim chance of making the play-in tournament

The Brooklyn Nets had a golden opportunity of earning the 10th and final seed in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament once Trae Young went down for the Atlanta Hawks. However, coming out of the All-Star break, Brooklyn is just 5-9 and sit four games behind the Hawks with just 14 games left on the schedule.

Despite the Nets not taking advantage of the opportunity in front of them to this point, not to meant having one of the easiest schedules in the NBA to finish the season, Brooklyn still had a slim chance. According to Basketball Reference’s Playoff Probabilities Report going into Tuesday’s slate of games, the Nets still have a 7.6% change of getting the 10th seed.

Yes, that figure means that Brooklyn is most likely out of the running for the play-in tournament given how much space is between them and Atlanta going 6-7 since coming back from the All-Star break. Since the Hawks are not faltering as much as expected without Young and now, Saddiq Bey.

If the Nets are going to fulfill the mission of the front office and ownership by making the play-in tournament, they have a chance to turn things around in Tuesday’s matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans. Otherwise, Brooklyn could be getting eliminated from the postseason very shortly.
