Nets’ Cam Johnson has hamstring strain; will miss start of training camp

NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson comes into the 2023-24 season with a lot of things coming from the summer: getting a lucrative contract from Brooklyn at the beginning of free-agency, experience from playing with Team USA in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, and unfortunately, an injury.

The Nets announced on Monday, before the start of the team’s Media Day, that Johnson suffered a mild strain of his left hamstring and will miss the start of training camp. The injury happened during a on-court workout last week so Johnson will not be ready to go when camp begins on Tuesday.

Johnson, 27, should be one of the players on the team that has a heavy responsibility to create offense for himself and others. Johnson said during his media session that he expects to play in the preseason at some point, but that he and the team will be patient with the injury.
