Neighbors sisters of Royse City place second, third in pole vault at Texas Relays

Apr. 5—AUSTIN — Athletes from Texas A&M University-Commerce and Wolfe City won events at the 96th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays this weekend.

Texas A&M University-Commerce high jumper Justin Jimoh won the men's B section high jump in the college division, clearing 7 feet, 1 inch on his first attempt. Antiwain Jones of Harding also cleared 7-1 but Jimoh was named the winner due to fewer misses.

Jimoh also won the high jump at 7-1/4 the previous week at the Clyde Hart Classic at Baylor.

Four-time state high school champion Caden Thurman of Wolfe City won the boys high school 1600-meter run against a strong field. Thomas won in the time of 4 minutes, 11.90 seconds. Evan Ringwald of Bellaire Episcopal was second at 4:13.23 and Hayden Scott from San Antonio Brandeis took third at 4:13.53. Thurman was in 10th place after one lap and moved up to second on the second lap and first by the third lap.

He's won two Class 2A state titles in the 1600, one in the 3200 and won in cross country. He has signed a letter of intent with the University of Houston.

Jacelyn Neighbors of Royse City finished second in the high school girls pole vault Division A with a vault of 12-10 1/4. Jathiyah Muhammad of the Ogburn School of California won with a clearance of 14-4. Muhammad's mark leads all U.S. high school girls pole vaulter this year.

Jacelyn's sister Tierany Neighbors of Royse City finished third in the girls pole vault B division for high school with a vault of 12-3 1/2. Ella Pickron of Smithson Valley won at 12-7 1/2. Aubrey Griffin also cleared 12-7 1/2 and finished second.

A&M-Commerce's mens 4x200-meter relay finished fourth with a time of 1:23.65. Aguz Uyar, Enoch Fosuhene, Ronald Owens and Ibrahim Fuseini ran on the relay. Houston won with a 1:21.55, followed UT-San Antonio (1:21.81) and Texas (1:22.33).

Cassandra Rendon of A&M-Commerce finished fourth in the women's B college discus with a top throw of 162-1.

Colt Cooper, a sophomore from Quinlan Ford, placed fourth in the men's Division B discus while competing for Abilene Christian University. Cooper's best throw was 173-3. Devin Mannings of Florida International won at 179-5.

The meet is named for the late Clyde Littlefield, a former Greenville High School coach who became a legend in college track and field while coaching at the University of Texas.
