Neenah sweeps Fondy in hoops doubleheader; No. 7 Oakfield and top-ranked Laconia girls basketball win big

Neenah 47, Fond du Lac 37

NEENAH - After trailing by just a point at halftime, the Cardinals (0-3, 0-2 Fox Valley Association) deficit to the Rockets (2-2, 1-1 FVA) grew by nine, resulting in their third consecutive loss to start the season.

Fondy's offense was held to under 20 points in each half.

Charlie Wunderlich led Neenah with 18 points, on 9-of-11 shooting, and five rebounds.

Winnebago Lutheran 66, Campbellsport 44

FOND DU LAC - WLA (4-1, 3-0 Flyway) bolstered a seven-point halftime lead into a 22-point blowout victory over the Cougars (1-4, 0-3 Flyway).

Sam Loehr led the Vikings with 25 points and Noah Gensler scored 18 in the second half to finish with 20 for WLA.

Caleb Smith had 13 points to lead Campbellsport and Ethan Pickering added 10 for the Cougars.

FOND DU LAC - Springs (3-1, 2-1 Flyway) doubled up Laconia (2-2, 1-2 Flyway) in the first half on the way to a blowout victory.

John Coon tied for the game-high with 16 points to lead the Ledgers. Noal Moul added a monster double-double with 15 points, 15 rebounds, six blocks and four assists. Ben Anderson narrowly missed a double-double of his own with 12 points, nine boards and four blocks.

Cash Farrell led the Spartans with 16 points and five rebounds. Keeton Grade added 13 points, eight boards and Owen Larson had nine points to round out the scoring leaders for Laconia.

Mayville 80, North Fond du Lac 59

NORTH FOND DU LAC - Mayville (1-5, 1-2 Flyway) earned their first victory of the season with the blowout win over the Orioles (0-5, 0-3 Flyway).

Braden Drinkwine drained 8-of-10 threes for a game-high 24 points to lead Mayville. Austin Thoreson added 16 points, eight rebounds and Cohen Raddemann had 11 points, six boards and seven assists.

Jackson Goldapske led North Fondy with a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double. Zach Siedschlag tacked on 11 points for the Orioles.

Waupun 76, Plymouth 72

WAUPUN - The Warriors (2-2, 1-0 East Central) opened up conference play with a close victory over the Panthers (3-1, 0-1 East Central).

Aiden Hawkinson shot 8-for-16 from the field, including 4-for-8 from beyond the arc and 11-of-12 at the free throw line, to lead Waupun with a game-high 31 points. Hawkinson also had five rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.

Jake Krueger added a double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds and Logan Prall had 12 points with five boards to round out the Warriors' scoring leaders.

Kayden Schultz and Jordan Schmitt each scored 22 points to lead Plymouth.

OMRO - The Foxes (4-1, 3-0 Flyway) remained unbeaten in conference with the victory over the Lions (2-3, 2-1 Flyway).

Jackson Goebel scored a game-high 22 points to lead Lomira and Logan Menzer added 10 points.

Keenan Rahn led Omro with 18 points, Ryan Schoeni added 16 and Mason Gruss had 13 for the Foxes.

NEENAH - The Rockets (6-1, 3-0 Fox Valley Association) held off the Cardinals (1-6, 0-3 FVA), who battled hard to keep the game close against the top team in the state.

Morgan Zangl scored 21 points, including four three-pointers, to lead Fondy.

Rowan Klesmit led Neenah with 19 points and UConn recruit Allie Ziebell added 17 for the Rockets.

HUSTISFORD - The Oaks (5-1, 3-0 Trailways-East) easily handled the Falcons (0-6, 0-4 Trailways-East) to remain unbeaten in the Flyway conference.

No. 1 (D-4) Laconia 76, No. 3 (D-5) Randolph 29 (Saturday)

RANDOLPH - The Spartans (8-0, 3-0 Flyway) held the Rockets (6-1, 4-0 Trailways-West) to under 20 points in each half for the huge, impressive victory over yet another ranked opponent.

Aubrey Leonard scored a game-high 19 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists to lead Laconia. Tierney Madigan and Eva Engel each added 13 points. Madigan also had a team-high seven boards and six assists.

Lauren Grieger led Randolph with 12 points.

BOYS HOCKEY

Chippewa Falls 7, Fond du Lac 0 (Friday)

CHIPPEWA FALLS - The Cardinals (2-3-1) gave up two goals in the first period, three in the second, and two more in the third in the shutout loss to Chippewa Falls (5-2).

Spencer Shober and Lucas Zimmerman split time in the net for Fondy, seeing 50 shots total.

Fond du Lac 2, Eau Claire North 1 (Saturday)

CHIPPEWA FALLS - Fondy (3-3-1) rebounded from a tough loss to Chippewa Falls the night before with a victory over the Huskies (3-3).

Drake Deanovich scored on an assist from Aiden Heffner in the second period and Heffner earned a goal in the third to lead the Cardinals.

Cam Moseler netted a power play goal for Eau Claire North on assists from Logan Hesselman and Easton Parker to cut the Fondy lead to one, but the Cardinals held on for the win.

Spencer Shober had 29 saves in net for Fondy.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Bay Area 6, Warbirds 1

FOND DU LAC - The Ice Bears (4-2) scored three goals in the second period to go ahead, 4-0, in the victory over the Warbirds (6-2).

The Warbirds lone goal was scored in the third period by Kristi Binder with an assist from Josie Kooima.

Ava McDonald and Faye Brunke each scored two goals for Bay Area. Rachael Beeck and Addison Gady also scored. Julianne Bradford had two assists.

Emma Jillig had 18 saves and Lauren Grass had three saves for the Warbirds. Bay Area goalie Kade Kitchenmaster made 13 saves.

Wisconsin Dells Devils Duals (Saturday)

Lomira finished 17th overall out of 32 teams, defeating Campbellsport to place first in the consolation tournament. The Cougars took second and Fond du Lac placed 15th in the consolation bracket.

Three girls competed for Lomira: Senior Kara Kuge was the champion of the 165-pound weight class, freshman Chloe Loughrin was the second-place finisher of the 100-pound weight class, and Shelsy Ramos-Suarez was the seventh-place finisher of the 126-pound weight class.
