Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Jason Quick of The Oregonian reports this morning that Portland Trail Blazers guard Rudy Fernandez has won the fan vote to compete in this year's Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. No doubt helped by the ever-so-popular Spain vote, young Rudy beat out Milwaukee's Joe Alexander and Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook, who slammed hard on the Heat last night in some sort of last-ditch effort. Here's Rudy's "highlight" reel:

Quick says Fernandez initially wanted to bring teammate and countryman Sergio Rodriguez to the event to throw passes, but Rodriguez declined in favor of vacationing. (Thanks for the support, bud.) Teammate Brandon Roy — who should be a shoo-in for the All-Star reserves — says he'll toss 'em up in Sergio's absence. And hey, perhaps with a little arm-twisting, Roy will just dunk for Rudy, too. (Yes, my Rudy dunk expectations are beyond low. Sorry, Portland. Sorry, Spain.)
