NBA fines 76ers' Joel Embiid $35K, suspends Hawks' Bruno Fernando after Game 6 altercation

The NBA fined Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid $35,000 and suspended the Atlanta Hawks center Bruno Fernando one game without pay following the altercation between the teams in Game 6, the league announced on Sunday.

The 76ers and Hawks meet for Game 7 at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Tipoff is 8 p.m. ET on TNT. Fernando was suspended for leaving the bench area during the altercation and will serve it on Sunday.

Embiid fined for 'escalating' situation

Embiid fell on top of the Hawks' John Collins during a put-back with 4:02 left in the fourth quarter of Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Collins shoved Embiid and both got to their feet. Embiid then pursued Collins with his hands stretched out wide and they fell into the crowd behind the basket. Collins grasped at Embiid's as he tried not to fall backward.

The NBA announced Embiid had been fined for "escalating the on-court altercation by pursuing Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins in an unsportsmanlike manner and failing to comply with an NBA Security interview following an on-court incident."

NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Kiki VanDeWeghe announced the fine and suspension.
