National Signing Day 2023: Greater Lafayette Area athletes sign letters of intent
Athletes from eight different high school reviled in their high school achievements by signing letters of intent to schools and universities to 14 different college in universities.
There were 17 athletes that signed to schools around Indiana, Illinois, New Jersey, Alabama and Maryland.
The list of athletes included 14 Division I athletes, including five volleyball players, two softball players, two swimmers, a golfer, a tennis player and a basketball player.
Here's a list of all the athletes and their accomplishments by school.
Alli Harness
University/College: Western Michigan
High School: Carroll
Sport: basketball
Position: shooting guard
Accomplishments: Harness is a 2-time Journal & Courier small schools player of the year. She has torn up the hardwood over the past four years and averaged 23.6 points per game, five rebounds per game and 4.2 assists per game while leading Carroll to the Class 2A Championship in 2021. Carroll has grown accustomed to watching Harness make clutch jump shots and play aggressive defense while leading Carroll.
Sienna Foster
University/College: Purdue
High School: Benton Central
Sport: volleyball
Position: outside hitter
Accomplishments: Foster was a prominent attacking outside hitter and will transition to becoming either a libero or defensive specialist at Purdue. Foster was responsible for helping the Bison to three 3A Sectional Championships in four years and an appearance in the 3A Regional Championship game. She finished with her career with 1,258 kills, 1,381 digs and 244 aces.
Riley Whitlock
University/College: Ball State
High School: Harrison
Sport: volleyball
Position: outside hitter
Accomplishments: Whitlock kept a calm demeanor when Harrison made a push towards history against local rival McCutcheon. Whitlock used her power and leaping ability to surge Harrison to its first IHSAA 4A Sectional Championship since 2014. Whitlock finished her volleyball career with 1,276 kills, a 43.1% kill percentage. a .259 hit percentage and 473 digs.
Isabella Humphrey
University/College: Auburn
High School: McCutcheon
Sport: volleyball
Position: outside hitter
Accomplishments: Humphrey was a dynamic hitter and back row player who helped McCutcheon win the IHSAA State 4-A Championship in 2021 with current Purdue star Chloe Chicoine. Humphrey contributed to three of four straight McCutcheon's Sectional Championship runs. Humphrey finished with 1,091 digs, 1,049 kills and 209 assists.
Jamison Ousley
University/College: University of Evansville
High School: Twin Lakes
Sport: golf
Accomplishments: Ousley is a distinguished golfer having played in 36 events and making the cut for 33. Ousley tied for third at the Kokomo Country Club Boys Jr. Fall Series and has 24 top-25 finishes during his career.
Allie Shondell
University/College: Purdue
High School: McCutcheon
Sport: volleyball
Position: setter
Accomplishments: Shondell is one of three Division I volleyball players who brought excitement and success to the Mavericks. Shondell's ball placement at setter led to many special moments on the court, her hands delivering repeated kills by Chicoine to become state champions in 2021. Shondell finished her career with 3,383 assists and 610 digs.
Matthew Klinge
University/College: Ohio State
High School: McCutcheon
Sport: swimming
Accomplishments: Klinge crushed the pool last winner winning two state championships in the 50-yard freestyle in 19.95 seconds and 100-yard butterfly in 47.90 seconds. Klinge is a 3-time state champion in a career that started in the varsity level as a freshman.
Chelsea Parker
University/College: DePaul
High School: Harrison
Sport: Softball
Position: first baseman
Accomplishments: A powerful right-handed bat, there's a certain mental shutter that occurs for pitchers when Parker is at the plate. Parker is a career .472 hitter with nine home runs, 96 RBI, 22 doubles and 11 triples heading into her final spring. Harrison has won three straight IHSAA 4A Sectional Championships including a state title appearance in 2021.
Alleigh Dutton
University/College: Rutgers
High School: McCutcheon
Sport: volleyball
Position: defensive specialist and libero
Accomplishments: Dutton was the shifty enforcer in the back row that kept McCutcheon's back row flowing during her last four years, including the Mavericks 2021 championship. Dutton finished with 738 digs and 118 assists.
Emma Segal
University/College: Indiana
High School: Frontier
Sport: volleyball
Position: outside hitter
Accomplishments: Segal at 5-foot-6 brought a powerful shot along with being able to play in the backrow. Segal led the Falcons to the 2022 IHSAA Class 1A title game. Segal finished her career with 1,908 kills and 918 digs.
Lauren Fecher
University/College: Ball State
High School: Harrison
Sport: swimming
Accomplishments: Fecher brought a competitive spirit to the pool and qualified for state in the 100-backstroke last winter. Fecher was also on the 200-medley and 400 freestyle relay teams for state.
Aesha Vogt
University/College: Butler
High School: Faith Christian
Sport: volleyball
Position: outside hitter
Accomplishments: Vogt was the leader for Faith Christian on and off the court, guiding the Eagles to two straight IHSAA Class 1A Sectional Championships after her team went 9-15 during her freshman year. Vogt finished her career with 1,245 kills and 697 digs.
Ava Mobley
University/College: Bradley
High School: Harrison
Sport: Softball
Position: catcher
Accomplishments: Harrison's lineup has been stacked with power hitters and Mobley is no exception. The right-hander has belted 12 home runs throughout her career with 89 RBI and four doubles.
Emma Gu
University/College: Navy
High School: Harrison
Sport: tennis
Accomplishments: A signature forehand along with stamina and quickness to outlast anyone on the side of the net, Gu has proved year after year why she's one of the toughest tennis players in the state. Gu led Harrison to an IHSAA tennis team title and is the #1 ranked player in Indiana, according to the Tennis Recruiting Network.
Jaycee Strawsma
University/College: Indiana Tech
High School: Benton Central
Sport: volleyball
Position: middle blocker
Accomplishments: Strawsma had the long reach and repeated timing needs to come away with momentum-changing blocks and kills. Strawsma finished her career with 478 kills and 165 blocks.
Kacey Kirkpatrick
University/College: Indiana Tech
High School: Fountain Central
Sport: Softball
Position: pitcher
Accomplishments: Kirkpatrick will find her role at Indiana Tech as she's been one of the area's more underrated pitchers and hitters. At the plate, Kirkpatrick is a career .403 hitter with nine home runs, 27 doubles and 68 RBI. Expect another home search from Kirkpatrick who hit seven home runs last season after hitting just one during her freshman and sophomore years. She has tossed 297 innings for 349 strikeouts.
Madison Wagner
University/College: Trine University
High School: Carroll
Sport: Basketball
Position: Guard
Accomplishments: Wagner is a consistent jump shooter and provides a rebounding presence for the Cougars. Wagner averages 15.2 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game.
Zoe Foxworthy Dejournett
University/College: Danville Area Community College
High School: Fountain Central
Sport: Softball
Position: outfielder
Accomplishments: Foxworthy Dejournett was impressive at the plate for the Mustangs in 2022. She batted .500 with eight home runs and will look to help improve Fountain Central's 11-14 record from a year ago.
