Nathan Rourke clears waivers, re-signed to Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad

The Nathan Rourke pendulum has swung yet again as the Jacksonville Jaguars have re-signed the rookie quarterback from Canada to the team's practice squad, the Jaguars announced Tuesday.

The move comes just a few days after the Jaguars waived Rourke which came a few days after he was initially signed to the active roster to act as an emergency QB in the team's game against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football.

Nathan Rourke: What Jaguars fans should know about the team's third-team QB from Canada

Rourke's services were not needed with starting QB Trevor Lawrence able to play every snap during the team's 31-24 win even with a left knee sprain. Rourke would have only played in the game if Lawrence, along with backup QB C.J. Beathard, were unable to finish the contest.

After clearing waivers, Rourke became eligible to be re-signed to the practice squad, where he has been since Week 1 of the regular season up until one day prior to the TNF matchup. Rourke was originally signed at the start of the calendar year to a futures deal and stayed with the team throughout the offseason and preseason.

In the preseason, Rourke completed 23-of-35 passes for 348 yards and one touchdown in three games played. He made headlines during the team's Week 1 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys where the rookie stayed on his feet, evading defenders, making a big throw while being hit for a touchdown.

The Jaguars will hope to not need Rourke's services for the rest of the season. With 10 days off between the team's 'TNF' matchup and their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday, Lawrence is expected to be ready and healthy enough to suit up with little issue.
