Juuse Saros earns first shutout of the season as Nashville Predators win home opener vs. Seattle Kraken

The Nashville Predators thoroughly outplayed the Seattle Kraken in a 3-0 win on Thursday in the home opener at Bridgestone Arena.

Juuse Saros had his first shutout of the season, stopping all 23 shots on goal. Colton Sissons scored a short-handed goal in the second period to get the Preds on the board, and Gustav Nyquist and Juuso Parssinen (empty-net) added third-period goals.

Nashville outshot Seattle 35-23 in the win.

Juuso Parssinen's empty-net goal caps a very good performance from the Predators in the home opener.

Gustav Nyquist's first goal as a Predators forward extends lead to 2-0

Veteran forward Gustav Nyquist has his first goal as a Nashville Predators forward.

From a tight angle, Nyquist deflects a shot past Grubauer to extend Nashville's lead to 2-0. Nyquist was to the Seattle goaltender's right and bounced the shot off of Adam Larsson's skate.

Predators penalty kill stands tall

The Kraken controlled the puck throughout an early third-period power play, but they were not credited with a shot on goal. Plenty of Preds players getting into the action via blocked and tipped shot attempts. Juuse Saros was never challenged. Still 1-0, Nashville.

Second period

Predators lead after excellent second period

Nashville only gets the Sissons short-handed goal, but it created a lot of chances in the second period. Shots 29-18 to Nashville.

Roman Josi was denied point-blank by Grubauer moments after the Sissons goal. It was the best chance of the evening to this point 5-on-5.

Nashville leads 1-0 through 40 minutes.

Colton Sissons is on the board, winning the race to the puck on a penalty kill, making a move to get away form a Kraken skater and beating Grubauer. Real good skill and effort from Sissons at 10:24 of the second. Cole Smith gets an assist.

First period

Predators, Kraken scoreless after one

The Kraken and Predators are scoreless after one period. Cole Smith's driving one-timer from the slot later in the period may have been the Preds' best scoring chance, but no real rebound to threaten Seattle goaltender Philipp Grubauer. A better start for Nashville compared to Tuesday, but each team has kept the game in front of them. Shots are 15-12, Nashville.

Nashville will have 1:38 of a power play to start the second period.
