Nashville area Small Class boys basketball rankings: Why Columbia Academy jumped to No. 1

The Tennessean’s Nashville area Small Class boys basketball rankings have been released.

The Small Class list consists of Class 1A, 2A and Division II-A schools. Results were compiled from games between Jan. 29-Feb. 3.

1. Columbia Academy (20-4) — Welcome the Bulldogs to No. 1. They went 2-0 last week, knocking off previously top-ranked Battle Ground Academy, 73-53. Gabe Davenport had 26 points in that game. Jeremy Jackson, Jr. put up 27 points, 18 rebounds and seven assists. Last week: No. 3. This week: vs. Franklin Road Academy (Wednesday). 

2. Providence Christian (20-3) — PCA is on a six-game winning streak after defeating previous No. 1 BGA 77-66 on Friday. Judson Bjornstad scored 27 points with 17 rebounds in the victory. Last week: No. 4. This week: vs. Middle Tennessee Christian (Wednesday). 

3. Goodpasture (21-4) — The Cougars went 3-0, including a 59-55 win over previous No. 5 Ezell-Harding. Jayden Jones had a huge game in a 76-57 win over DCA to start the week, scoring 32 points with eight rebounds, two steals and three blocks. Last week: No. 7. This week: vs. Mt. Juliet Christian (Wednesday). 

4. BGA (22-4) — The Wildcats hit their first losing stretch this season in back-to-back losses to PCA and Columbia Academy. Kavien Jones continued his big season, though, scoring 32 points against PCA. Last week: No. 1. This week: vs. Grace Christian (Wednesday). 

5. Clarksville Academy (20-5) — Trae Rideau averaged 29.5 points and the Wildcats went 3-0, including a win over previous No. 2 Friendship Christian. Last week: No. 6. This week: vs. Nashville Christian (Wednesday). 

6. Friendship Christian (14-5) — Few will forget Xavier Humphrey’s half-court buzzer beater that knocked off Ezell-Harding, 60-59. The Commanders went 2-2 and lost back-to-back games to end the week. Last week: No. 2. This week: vs. DCA (Wednesday).

7. Ezell-Harding (18-8) — The Eagles took two tough losses, including a 59-55 setback to Goodpasture. Blake Dean had 18 points against FCS. Last week: No. 5. This week: vs. Davidson Academy (Wednesday). 

8. Whites Creek (17-5) — The Cobras have won six straight games. Tyron Robertson averaged 13 points in two wins last week, including a key 51-49 victory against East Nashville. Isaiah Eubanks added 10 in the win. Last week: No. 9. This week: at RePublic (Tuesday); vs. RePublic (Thursday).

9. Loretto (16-5) — The Mustangs have won six consecutive games and seven of their last eight. They earned a key 66-54 win over rival Summertown. Last week: Not ranked. This week: at Mt. Pleasant (Tuesday); at Richland (Thursday); at Perry County (Saturday). 

10. Cannon County (18-6) — Theo Winters scored 22 points in an 85-58 win over Grundy County, and Demaurion Locke had 18 points in a 58-52 win over Community to sustain the Lions’ eight-game win streak. Last week: Not ranked. This week: vs. Community (Monday); at Forrest (Tuesday).
