Nashville area football roundup: FRA, Davidson Academy win in region routs

Here is a look at the top Nashville area high school football games from Week 8 of the 2023 TSSAA season.

Brentwood 28, Centennial 21: Baylor Hayes went 14-of-18 passing for 175 yards and two TDs to keep the Bruins (8-0) undefeated while handing Centennial its first loss of the season. Gavyn Nelson had 100 all-purpose yards and two TDs for Brentwood. Johnny Silvestri picked off three passes from Elisha Nieves, who had four interceptions for the game. Nieves threw for 182 yards and a TD for the Cougars (7-1). Dominic Reed ran for 80 yards and two TDs and caught a 52-yard pass.

Clarksville 62, Kirkwood 6: James Dalrymple ran for 172 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries for Clarksville (8-0). Ahmoyre Galbreath added 92 yards and two touchdowns on six carries. Payton Langan, Trey Youngs, Jamarcus Watkins and Kayden Pledger also scored rushing touchdowns and Jack Stein caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from Jack Wyatt.

Columbia Academy 27, Nashville Christian 21: Montae Baldwin had 25 carries for 151 yards and three touchdowns to lead Columbia Academy (5-3). Connor Rosson was 8-of-15 passing for 142 yards and a touchdown and CJ Durrough caught four passes for 118 yards and a touchdown. Jared Curtis was 14-of-22 passing for 154 yards with two interceptions and a touchdown and had 15 carries for 95 yards and two touchdowns for Nashville Christian (3-4).

Cornersville 40, Wayne County 14: Ben Franklin rushed for 309 yards and three touchdowns for Cornersville (5-3). Drew Bevis was 4-of-10 passing for 138 yards with a touchdown and an interception in a loss for Wayne County (3-5). Ryder Davis added 126 yards on 21 carries and Skyler Skelton had two catches for 90 yards and a touchdown.

CPA 52, Antioch 14: Rawls Patterson and Josh Mayernick combined for five rushing TDs in the non-region win for CPA (7-1). Mayernick had four carries for 135 yards and two TDs. Patterson had five carries for 68 yards and three TDs. Dylan Reid added 79 rushing yards and a TD. Delaware commit Braden Streeter was 6-of-7 passing for 138 yards and a TD. Antioch fell to 3-5.

Davidson Academy 56, Webb School - Bell Buckle 0: Knox Roberts was 12-of-16 passing for 187 yards and four touchdowns for Davidson Academy (7-1). Caden Stroud added 95 yards and a touchdown on nine carries and Wes Harper had six catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns. Sam Bradley was 7-of-18 passing for 39 yards and an interception for Webb (0-7).

DCA 35, Clarksville Academy 0: Mitchell Carey continued his red-hot season, completing 14-of-23 passes for 239 yards with four touchdowns for DCA (5-3, 2-1 DII-A Middle Region). Carson Sneed had two TD catches for 56 yards. Grayson Scragg added four catches for 61 yards. And Wesley Gober had 14 carries for 93 yards with a TD.

Ethan Bones was 14-of-26 passing for 164 yards. Chris Ragans had eight catches for 87 yards for Clarksville Academy (1-7, 0-3).

East Robertson 35, Trousdale County 0: Isaiah Groves had 21 carries for 181 yards and caught three passes for 114 yards on Thursday night for East Robertson (7-1, 3-1 3-2A). He also had four total TDs — two rushing and two receiving. Kason Young, a freshman, was 3-of-5 passing for 114 yards and two TDs. He also rushed for 39 yards. Trousdale County fell to 3-4, 1-2 in region play.

Ensworth 17, Father Ryan 10: Max Holtzclaw was 13-of-20 passing for 119 yards and a touchdown to lead Ensworth (7-2). Jayden Pyant had 14 carries for 113 yards and Jaren Sensabaugh caught three passes for 38 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers. Jojo Crump was 18-of-31 passing for 183 yards with one touchdown and one interception and had 20 carries for 73 yards for Father Ryan (3-4).

FRA 61, BGA 20: Logan Kinnard was 8-of-12 passing for 267 yards, four touchdowns and one interception to lead FRA (8-0). Ty Clark III had 22 carries for 217 yards and three touchdowns and two catches for 86 yards and a touchdown and Charlie Speed caught three passes for 107 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers. Kaedyn Marable was 5-of-11 passing for 114 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for BGA (3-5).

Grace Christian 37, Whites Creek 0: Kyle Davidson was 8-of-19 passing for 136 yards and three touchdowns and had seven carries for 35 yards and a touchdown for Grace Christian (4-3). Tucker Wolf had 97 yards and two touchdowns on four catches and Hunter Wyatt had three carries for 27 yards and two catches for 14 yards and a touchdown.

Henry County 46, Beech 45: Peyten Littleton's halfback pass to fullback Brock Archie on a two-point conversion gave the Patriots (7-1, 4-0 Region 7-5A) the region win in overtime. Henry County quarterback Caden Marshall had 29 carries for 172 yards and three total TDs. Kaden Powell was 4-of-7 passing for 137 yards and three TDs for Beech (3-4, 2-1). KaJuan Harris had three catches for 112 yards and two TDs. DK Williams ran three times for 85 yards and a TD.

Independence 31, Fairview 7: Torey King had 105 rushing yards and two TDs on six carries for the Eagles (5-3). Teammate Luke McNeilly was 3-of-6 passing for 100 yards and rushed for 85 yards and a TD in the win.

Kenwood 47, Northwest 7: Kenwood's defense forced 10 turnovers as the Knights improved to 2-5 on Thursday. Christian James had three interceptions and made five tackles. Frederick Ellis had seven tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Cam'ron Dowell picked off a pass and forced a fumble.

Knoxville Catholic 47, Brentwood Academy 42: George MacIntyre was 24-of-33 passing for 361 yards and four touchdowns in a loss for Brentwood Academy (1-7). Shavar Young had nine catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns and Kolbe Harmon had 98 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches.

Macon County 35, Livingston Academy 0: Gabe Borders ran for 189 yards and three TDs in the region win for the Tigers (7-1, 4-1 Region 4-4A) on Thursday. Teammate Zach Borders ran for 85 yards and a TD and Cooper Carlisle had four carries for 42 yards. Macon County outgained Livingston Academy (2-6, 0-4) 321-104 for the game.

Marshall County 58, Montgomery Central 6: Silas Teat was 8-of-9 passing for 152 yards and four touchdowns for Marshall County (7-1). Aja Jones had three catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns and Antomme Cowthorn had four carries for 41 yards and a touchdown.

MBA 14, Lipscomb Academy 6: Brooklen Davis had 18 carries for 128 yards and a touchdown in a win for MBA (3-5). Hugh Price was 4-of-9 passing for 74 yards and had 13 carries for 19 yards and a touchdown for the Big Red. Tav Shaffer was 19-of-30 passing for 170 yards for Lipscomb Academy (2-5).

Moore County 36, Collinwood 6: Dawson White was 15-of-22 passing for 160 yards and ran for 103 yards and scored three TDs. Teammate Logan Hegwood had 21 carries for 182 yards with a TD for Moore County (7-0, 4-0 Region 5-1A). White also had 10 total tackles along with Wes Clifton.

Nolensville 27, James Lawson 0: Ty Collins was 17-of-32 passing for 268 yards with two touchdowns and an interception to lead Nolensville (7-1). Landon Smotherman caught six passes for 120 yards and a touchdown and Zion Tamaska had 15 carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns.

Page 35, Hillsboro 7: Jonathan Palmer was 16-of-25 passing for 206 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in a win for Page (8-1). Calvin Kotarba had eight catches for 105 yards and a touchdown and Ethan Cunningham had 18 carries for 49 yards for the Patriots.

Pearl-Cohn 35, Greenbrier 0: How many carries did Javion Kinnard need to rush for 118 yards and two touchdowns? He had just two, scoring on 25- and 93-yard runs, and added two catches for 90 yards, including a 70-yard score. Pearl-Cohn (8-0) pitched its fourth consecutive shutout. Keshawn Tarleton was 7-of-10 passing for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

Ravenwood 41, Franklin 28: Femi Babalola was 9-of-12 passing for 143 yards and a TD for the Raptors (7-1, 4-0 Region 6-6A) on Thursday. Ben Hubbard had three catches for 76 yards and a TD. Davis Dowland had 28 carries for 138 yards and two TDs. And Donovan Starr returned an interception for a TD.

Brewer Wilson was 14-of-28 passing for 263 yards with three TDs and two interceptions for the Admirals (0-8, 0-4). Lucas Young had seven catches for 123 yards and a TD and Thomas Tillman had an 80-yard TD catch.

Rossview 30, McGavock 0: Reed Bryant went 10-of-14 passing for 141 yards and three TDs, including two of them to JT Sims to help Rossview improve to 6-2 on Thursday. Brody Prairie caught five passes for 84 yards and a TD. Hezekiah Scott ran for a TD. Braiden Garner threw for for 84 yards on 7-of-8 passing for McGavock (1-7).

Stratford 40, Maplewood 20: Justyce Law was 9-of-19 passing for 133 yards with two TDs and an interception on Thursday. Teammate Alterion Frazier had 25 carries for 170 yards and a TD for Stratford (5-3, 2-1 Region 5-3A. Maplewood fell to 0-8, 0-2 in league play.

Summit 37, Overton 6: Mason McElhaney had 11 carries for 113 yards with two TDs in the Region 6-6A win for the Spartans (3-5, 2-2). He also completed a 53-yard TD pass to Cooper Felts. Jadon Stafford had 16 carries for 49 yards for the Bobcats (1-7, 0-4).

York 14, Stone Memorial 7: Miles Leffew had 19 carries for 91 yards and was 1-of-6 passing for 12 yards for York (7-0). Blake Voiles added 75 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries and Logan Pannell had six carries for 36 yards.
