Naomi Osaka reportedly withdraws from Wimbledon due to Achilles injury

Tennis phenom Naomi Osaka apparently withdrew from Wimbledon on Saturday due to an Achilles injury. Osaka sent out a tweet saying, "See you next time," which prompted speculation she wouldn't take part in Wimbledon.

Osaka did not specifically mention withdrawing or Wimbledon in her statement. It appears, however, that she won't play at the tournament.

It marks the second straight year in which she has pulled out of the event. Osaka missed Wimbledon in 2021 while taking care of her mental health. The tournament was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning Osaka has not participated at Wimbledon since 2019.

Osaka revealed her Achilles trouble in early June, when she tweeted out a video of her on an underwater treadmill. In the tweet, Osaka said her "Achilles is being stubborn."

Osaka took part in the French Open in late May, but lost in the first round.

Before that loss, Osaka said she might not take part in Wimbledon in 2022. The tournament will not have ranking points this year, and Osaka said she was worried about being able to hype herself up if Wimbledon felt more like an exhibition.
