Names&Faces: 'Matty: An Evening with Christy Mathewson' comes to Keystone College

Aug. 8—A one-man play celebrates the life and legacy of a baseball legend in his hometown this weekend.

"Matty: An Evening with Christy Mathewson" returns to Keystone College on Friday at Theatre in Brooks on campus.

The performance, which is open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

Eddie Frierson portrays Mathewson, a Factoryville native and graduate of Keystone who rose to stardom as one of baseball's greatest pitchers. The National Baseball Hall of Fame member, who played primarily for the New York Giants and briefly for the Cincinnati Reds, died in 1925.

Frierson wrote "Matty" based on his extensive research of Mathewson that started in 1984. He's performed the award-winning show for baseball fans across the nation, including several times at Keystone over the years. "Matty" was supposed to return to the college last August, but Frierson had to reschedule.
